For Farmers

There’s big business in natural grass, which is why producers in the turfgrass industry are looking for innovative ways to maximize their market share. No matter how big or small, every farm contributes to this multi-billion dollar industry. To keep the grass growing and the green rolling in, producers are innovating for 3 key reasons.

Emphasizing Sustainability

The turfgrass industry relies tremendously on the health and stability of our environment . In recent years, top producers have been developing more holistic ways to manage their land for more sustainable profits.

Putting Soil Biology First

This practice focuses on improving soil health and biodiversity, establishing a foundation for high-quality turf. To do so, farmers closely analyze the natural biology of the soil. This allows them to nurture the soil microbiome through natural and chemical amendments.

Integrated Pest Management

One approach to Integrated pest management includes rolling back the use of harmful chemicals in pesticides. Many advocates of this practice mix native grass planting with other emerging holistic techniques to scale down pesticide application. As the world embraces this tenet of holistic turfgrass management, farmers are analyzing biological controls, preventing weeds through turf health, and building the best environment for their crop!

Planting Low-Maintenance Native Grasses

Native species require less water, fertilizer, and maintenance to produce a healthy crop. To help farmers harvest tender sod, Magnum offers the industry’s strongest field netting and the intuitive BN-1720 Field Net Installer. By supporting your crop with sturdy field netting, the root system has a scaffolding to hold on to when harvested!

Precision Turf Management

Precision turf management means using the latest technology to fine-tune data-driven approaches. This practice helps farmers optimize their resources, introduce smart irrigation systems, and even implement drones for turf health monitoring and mapping. With more information at their fingertips than ever before, modern turfgrass producers can maximize efficiency like never before!

Maximizing Profitability

A farmer’s bottom line relies on the health of their crop. But as farms shape the future of turfgrass management, they’re also keeping a close eye on the finances that keep every operation rolling confidently. To improve both, our customers are innovating their practices with these emerging concepts!

GPS-RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) Technology

From fertilization to harvesting, GPS-RTK technology virtually eliminates wasteful overlaps or missed areas by offering real-time measurements and statistics. Producers can leverage yield and profitability mapping to analyze historical data on turf performance and input costs. This is turfgrass management for the modern age!

Regular Water Audits

Turfgrass producers regularly conduct water audits to increase the efficiency of their irrigation systems, pinpoint areas for improvement, and cut back on overall water use. They also implement strategic watering practices, such as deep and variable watering to encourage shallow root systems to grow deeper. This helps turfgrass grow more resilient and less dependent on surface irrigation.

Increasing Automation

Modern automation streamlines everyday processes worldwide, and the sod farming industry is no exception. Semi-automatic machines like Magnum’s SRA and SP harvesters offer significant advantages in turfgrass management. Modern machinery helps reduce labor costs and decrease the need for human operators to perform routine tasks throughout the harvesting process.

For Installers

On the other side of turfgrass management, dedicated crews spend their lives installing countless sod rolls in parks, stadiums, front yards, and beyond. No matter where these pros go, they know reliable equipment gets the job done right. That’s where Magnum’s A-Series installer shines! With our innovative machine, we help installers uphold their core values every day and deliver the best-quality product.

Quality Comes First

For decades, the best way to install a big roll of sod was by using a skid steer or forklift to position it, and then unrolling the needed length by hand. This caused a lot of unnecessary back pain, misaligned rolls, and missed deadlines. To streamline this process, Magnum created a completely new machine designed around the installer’s needs.

The A-Series Installer uses flotation tires to roll along the surface of freshly rolled sod without affecting the quality of the grass. This allows installers to roll massive lengths of sod while maintaining perfect positioning. For tight installations, the A-Series has a short wheelbase, making quick turnarounds easy. With attachments for everything from prepping the soil to reclaiming netting, Magnum’s A-Series saves time, effort, and money for jobs of every shape and size!

Another Kind of Green

Keeping grass healthy is an essential part of proper turfgrass management before and after installation. However, Magnum focuses on saving a different kind of green for our customers! We provide one machine that can do the work of 3 to 4 people to make jobs faster, crews more efficient, and bottom lines healthier than ever.

By reducing the number of team members it takes to get your project done, labor costs and liabilities are lower. Plus, fields get done faster, freeing up more time in installation schedules. This helps professional crews cut costs and increase productivity—a win-win for every operation!

Longevity Is Beauty

Natural grass is much easier to replace and often more affordable than synthetic turf. For our teams in famous stadiums around the world, quick turnarounds provide lasting beauty to the public eye. That’s where both parts of sod production come together to create sports turf for magic under those Friday night lights.

Before turfgrass managers select their ideal rolls for the world’s biggest stages, quality turf starts on a farm. It takes months for a professional-quality cut of turf to mature into a usable roll, and during that time, farmers are using all of the innovative concepts listed above alongside Magnum’s advanced tools. When it’s time to harvest, our machines make exceptionally even cuts thanks to the anti-vibration cutting heads.

As each slab of sod makes its way into our harvesters, it’s wrapped in our industry-leading netting, and neatly ejected from the machine at the desired roll length. Clean cuts and tight wrapping make Magnum-quality big rolls a top choice for high-profile sod installations.

That uniformity also comes in handy when stadiums have to update their natural sod. Since natural sod is biodegradable, any replaced pieces can simply be replanted. Modernizing our industry and maintaining the environment are 2 essential cornerstones of turfgrass management in the modern age.
