Properly Structured Sod
Before looking into your options, it’s important to understand the proper structure of a sod roll. Essentially, a big roll of sod has a few layers—a couple inches of grass, a layer of soil, and finally, net wraps that keep the entire roll together. Field netting and big roll netting help in a few important ways.

Controlling Erosion
The soil and grass plants are held together by a strong matrix created by the intertwined roots and field netting. This is especially helpful for sod grown on loose or sandy soils that are susceptible to erosion or disintegration. The netting gives the developing grass roots a physical structure to grow into and around, which allows for an earlier harvest of the crop.
Encouraging Growth
On the farm, sod producers can harvest sooner than usual by using field netting. This supports the root system as it develops. The netting’s strength keeps the sod together during rolling and transport, even if the roots are not fully mature. This leads to more efficient production cycles.
Superior Shipping
Securing sod rolls with big roll netting significantly improves their overall strength and resilience. This directly translates to a considerable reduction in damage during the various stages of transportation, which often involves rough handling.
- Reduced Turf Loss: The enhanced structural integrity provided by the big roll netting makes the sod rolls significantly less prone to cracking or falling apart. This is particularly crucial when handling with forklifts or manually lifting, where sudden movements or accidental drops can occur.
- Improved Stacking and Stability: Uniform and intact sod rolls can be stacked more securely and efficiently on pallets thanks to tight netting. Proper net wraps significantly reduce the risk of shifting or falling during transit, which can cause substantial damage to the sod. The improved stability can also contribute to cost savings from optimized transport!
- Lasting Value and Satisfaction: By minimizing damage and maintaining the structural integrity of the sod rolls, netting helps preserve sod’s aesthetic value. This is a major component of customer satisfaction, since the visual appeal of the sod is often a primary factor in purchasing decisions.
The right netting can mean so many things from the farm to your front yard. So how does Magnum ensure the highest-quality experience for farmers, installers, and the customers we serve? Our different types of netting keep quality sod rolling every day. Let’s take a look into where you’ll find our products!

Field Netting Comes First
Before harvesting any sod, the best fields start with a firm foundation. This requires farmers to roll out thousands of square feet of field netting. By installing field netting throughout a freshly planted field, root systems can grow stronger, and farmers can harvest tender crops faster. To make this part of the process even easier, Magnum offers industry-leading field netting in addition to our array of net wraps.
More Netting = Faster Installs
Our field netting spans up to 25,000 square feet, which is longer than any other roll of its kind! This not only ensures consistent quality throughout the field, it also means that farmers don’t have to replace rolls as often. Maximizing productivity means minimizing time spent off your machine.
Stronger Materials = Fewer Scraps
Each roll of field netting isn’t just longer than that of our competitors, it’s stronger too. Compared to the next leading rolls, Magnum’s field netting is 10% stronger! This means easier stretching with minimal scrap and replacements.
Easy Installs With Innovative Equipment
We don’t just sell the netting that makes better sod happen. Magnum also offers 2 options to make net installations easier than ever! Gone are the days of painstakingly stretching and staking acres of nets by hand. With our innovative machines, we make the process faster and easier than ever!
BN-1720 Field Net Installer
In larger operations, having one machine for multiple uses can make a huge impact on efficiency. The BN-1720 field net installer has changed the face of field net installation. as the only big roll-focused net installer! This towable machine includes stakers and is expandable to any common size of big roll field netting. As the netting comes off of the roll, the coulter pushes the net into the divot it makes in the soil. The net is then bunched together, pulling it tighter.
Then a press wheel runs over the top of it to level out the soil and prevents the netting from pulling out of the divot. This process is happening on the left and right side of the machine, allowing the installation of field net to be faster and easier than ever. The option for dual auto-stakers takes care of injecting wood stakes to secure netting firmly to the ground with no manual labor. Faster staking with fewer replacements and stronger support for the root system all make Magnum the ideal source for field netting and installation equipment.

The Best Netting for Big Rolls
When it comes to rolling up the latest crop, our big roll net wraps maintain a strong structure from the field to final installation. Magnum’s line of big roll netting keeps industry needs in mind with options ranging from 3 different strengths, 2 colors, and a variety of widths and lengths to choose from!
Strength
To give producers exactly what they need for their unique crop, Magnum offers 3 different roll strength options. Each roll strength also determines the roll length. Here’s a quick breakdown of how strength and length correlate in our big roll netting:
Regular Strength: 12,000 feet
Mid-Grade: 10,800 feet
Heavy Duty: 8,500 feet
BioHarvest: 3,000 feet
Size
The length changes with the strength of the netting due to the pressure required to contain every square foot of soil and grass. Regardless of the length, our netting is made to keep multiple widths of cuts evenly and cleanly. Magnum regularly stocks widths ranging from 23” all the way up to 46”, but we also offer made-to-order options from 30”, 41”, 42”, and 48”.
Options
For the most customizable big roll net options available, Magnum offers 2 color options and 1 innovative material! Our classic plastic netting is available in brown or clear in every size and strength. These plastic nets will still need to be removed during installation. To offer installers an advanced solution for net wraps, we also offer a 100% plant-based option!

Big Roll Netting for the Planet
Magnum is excited to offer netting designed with the next generation in mind. BioHarvestNet™ is one of the most groundbreaking innovations in the sod industry, making harvesting, installation, and replacements more sustainable than ever before. As we look into who’s using this netting and why, there are 3 elements that tie most of our customers together.
Simpler Installation
Big roll sod can be used in a wide variety of places, but traditional plastic netting requires additional hours of labor to remove after installation and additional dumpster fees. BioHarvestNet™ naturally degrades into the soil, which eliminates this step! Faster turnaround times for crews and a healthier root system for the grass make biodegradable netting a popular alternative.
Lower Impact
In addition to the shorter installation time, this netting also offers a lower impact on the environment and the people who shape it. By eliminating the need to manually remove thousands of feet of netting, crew members save their backs, legs, and arms from a physically demanding part of the job. This netting also benefits the environment by keeping thousands of pounds of plastic out of the ecosystem and promoting healthy growth of the installed grass.
Higher Satisfaction
There are very few downsides when it comes to saving the environment and reducing painstaking labor! That’s why crews and customers that benefit from BioHarvestNet™ experience higher satisfaction throughout their project.!
